In the rapidly evolving world of school sports technology, innovation is abundant, but so are the challenges. Since its establishment, the K12 Sports Tech AD Think Tank has become an essential platform where athletic directors (ADs) and sports tech vendors come together to share their insights and collaborate on ways to improve the athletic programs of schools nationwide.
After hundreds of Think Tank meetings and ongoing dialogues this year, two key trends have emerged, providing crucial direction for the future of K12 Sports Tech, its partners, and athletic administrators across the country.
1. THE COLLABORATION CONUNDRUM
One of the most prominent challenges discussed by ADs in our Think Tank meetings is the lack of meaningful collaboration between vendors. Many vendors are offering excellent individual solutions, but the disconnect between companies often leaves athletic programs struggling to integrate these technologies seamlessly.
ADs are feeling the strain of managing multiple platforms that don’t communicate with one another, creating inefficiencies in both time and resource management. As ADs strive to maintain smooth operations, the lack of vendor collaboration hampers their ability to deliver the best possible experience for student-athletes. Athletic departments are often left juggling multiple isolated tools that don’t integrate, adding complexity to their already busy workflows.
What’s clear is that the real need is for cohesive systems that work seamlessly across various aspects of their programs—from scheduling and performance tracking to communication with parents and students. Addressing this challenge will require better collaboration between vendors to ensure their products can complement each other and meet the needs of ADs in a more unified way.[/one_fourth]

2. THE QUEST FOR STREAMLINED SOLUTIONS: THE “ONE-STOP-SHOP”
A recurring theme in our discussions with ADs is the desire for a streamlined, “one-stop-shop” solution. The current marketplace is crowded with tools that provide some value but often fall short of offering comprehensive, all-encompassing solutions. ADs have expressed frustration with the complexity of managing multiple tech systems, wishing for a more centralized approach to simplify their day-to-day operations.
While a single solution that does it all remains elusive, the ADs we work with continue to advocate for greater integration and compatibility among vendors. The White Whale of a fully unified platform remains a distant dream, but K12 Sports Tech is committed to making progress toward this goal by leveraging our relationships with ADs and both veteran vendors and disruptive newcomers in the space.
Too much of the day is consumed by paperwork and busy work, leaving ADs frustrated and bogged down, with little time to interact with coaches, athletes, and the community— the parts of the job that make it enjoyable.”

WORKING ON A SOLUTION: EMPOWERING ATHLETIC DIRECTORS THROUGH K12’S AD THINK TANK
The K12 Sports Tech AD Think Tank is at the heart of these initiatives. By bringing ADs together with vendors, we are working to create collaborative partnerships that benefit athletic programs across the country. We’ve launched pilot programs, conducted market testing, and brought new companies into the fold—all while ensuring that the voices of ADs are at the forefront of these efforts. Their feedback and expertise are essential as we continue to push for innovation and improved vendor collaboration in the K12 sports tech space.
The AD Think Tank is more than just a forum; it’s a driving force for change. With the input of ADs nationwide, we are building long-term solutions that simplify operations and foster a more cohesive technology ecosystem for athletic departments.
